Umeed was started with a vision to reach every differently abled child and their family in the society and provide quality intervention. The Centre not only caters to the need of Autistic children but also to children suffering from other developmental disorders like cerebral palsy, etc. Its aim is to provide educational services to these children to achieve fullest of their ability and to spread awareness and sensitize society towards needs of these children.
The teaching methodology used by the centre includes ABA(Applied Behaviour Analysis) which follows data driven individual education plan for teaching, VBA(Verbal Behaviour Analysis) and TEACH (Treatment and Education of Autistic and Communication Handicapped Children) which uses visual clarity and the individual’s needs and emerging capabilities.
Some of their other activities include:
SAACAR (Section of Adolescent and Adult Care And Rehabilitation) which focuses on children to prepare them for employment and independent living. This section focuses on children’s academic and functional skills and also on school to post school activities like vocational training, integrated employment, adult education, etc.KHUSHI- a day school programme for empowering parents and children with developmental disabilities. It involves teaching basic communication, social interaction skills, pre-writing, pre-reading skills, and concept building through one to one session or group session based on child’s need. The school also provides speech therapy, computer and sensory integration to prepare children to move them to mainstream classrooms.
