Disha Charitable autism free india Trust started a Special School and Autism Centre in the year 2000 to provide comprehensive and wide range of services to children with Autism, Down’s Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and other multiple disabilities. Disha has a dedicated multidisciplinary team of trained and experienced professionals comprising of special educators, therapist, counselors, field workers and vocational trainers to cater to children with special needs.
1. Disha Special School:
The child is first diagnosed and assessed in all areas related to the disability and a detailed report is prepared by a multidisciplinary team of experts. Based on the report parents are guided regarding immunization, nutrition, speech and language development, sensory integration, etc. Early Intervention services is provided to toddlers and infants suspected at a risk of delayed development below 3 years of age.Based on assessment an IEP (Individual Education Plan) is designed and worked on. The child is trained on Activities of Daily Life and necessary therapeutical services are provided in the deficit area.
2. Autism Centre:
At Disha Autism Centre the diverse need of individuals with ASD is addressed and an approach is followed to teach the child do be independent and learn from its surrounding. The centre follows an evidence based teaching method, which when implemented in consistent manner helps to improve skills of children with ASD. The centre follows ABA, PECS and other technological techniques to teach leisure skills, social skills, pre-vocational training, etc to these individuals.3. Vocational training:
The vocational training unit at Disha is well equipped and helps beneficiaries to develop requisite skills to become employable. The vocational skills programme at the centre includes computer basics, photocopying, bags making, lamination, etc.
4. Community Based Rehabilitation:
CBR by Disha extends it hand to the unreachable of the society. The disabled children staying in the slums, below poverty line are helped to maximize their potential so that they can lead a dignified and independent life. These children are provided with services like educational, remedial, pre-vocational training and other therapies at their home as well as at the centre.
