Deepshikha Institute for Child Development and Mental Health is a premier institute which works for the rehabilitation of children with developmental disabilities. The centre consist of a multidisciplinary team of physiotherapist, speech therapist, psychiatrists, special educators etc working for overall development of children with multiple disabilities.The Institute is also involved in spreading awareness of persons with disabilities in community and empowering families to ensure holistic development of every child.
1. Clinical Services:
It includes diagnosis, assessment, intervention and therapeutical services by a team professionals who aim at enhancing emotional, behavioral and academic skills of children with intellectual and multiple disabilities. Individualised attention is given to every child by a team of professionals that includes psychologists, psychiatrist, speech, therapist, special educator, etc. The records of treatment are maintained.
Education is provided to children with disabilities with an aim to maximize and explore their potential and abilities. The students are taught activities of daily life, functional skills, communication, social interaction,etc with an aim to mainstream them and to ensure that they also contribute to the society.
3. Adult Skill Training:
Deepshikha aims to develop vocational skills in children with special needs to make them self reliant and prepare them for independent living. The training not only develops vocational skills but also enhances physical and mental skills, fine & gross motor skills, eye hand co-ordination, etc. The vocations undertaken include marble/screen painting, diya painting, file making, stitching,knitting, xerox, etc.
Various courses in special education are also offered as an extension to Human Resource Development Programme, recognised by Rehabilitation Council of India. Courses include Diploma, B.Ed and D.Ed courses in Special Education(Mental retardation).
